Services Performed
- INSPECT FOR POSSIBLE HEAD GASKET FAILURE OR COOLANT LOSS AND SLUDGE IN OIL FILLER NECK. COOLING SYSTEM WAS ONE HALF GALLON LOW. TOPPED OFF COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECK RADIATOR CAP HOLDS PRESSURE, IT DID NOT. INSTALL NEW RADIATOR CAP AND TEST DROVE SEVERAL MILES TO MONITOR ENGINE TEMPERATURE AND ANY POSSIBLE ENGINE MISFIRES, NEITHER FAILED AND TEMPERATURE STAYED STEADY. INSPECT POSSIBLE CAUSE OF SLUDGE IN OIL FILLER NECK, FOUND PCV VALVE WAS NOT WORKING CAUSING NORMAL MOISTURE TO ACCUMULATE IN CRANKCASE. REPLACED PCV VALVE AND TEST DROVE AGAIN. HAD NO INDICATION OF COOLANT LOSS OR TEMPERATURE VARIATION. PERFORM ENGINE BLOCK TEST, IT WAS NEGATIVE. RECOMMEND MONITOR COOLANT LEVEL AND ENGINE TEMPERATURE. ALSO MAY DEVELOP ENGINE MISFIRE ON START UP WITH HEAD GASKET FAILURE, MONITOR AS WELL. COULD NOT VERIFY HEAD GASKET ISSUE BUT MAY ONLY HAPPEN UNDER HEAVY DRIVING CONDITIONS LIKE MOUNTAIN PASSES.
- PERFORM COOLING SYSTEM FLUSH WITH FLUSH AND CONDITIONER ADDITIVES.
